Myopia Management

What is Myopia Management?

Myopia management, or myopia control, is a way to slow down how quickly nearsightedness progresses. It works best when started before myopia stabilizes in early adulthood, which makes kids and adolescents ideal patients for this type of eye care.

Why Does My Child’s Myopia Need To Be Managed?

Does your child squint at the TV, hold books close, or complain of headaches? These could be signs of myopia (nearsightedness).

Your kids grow older every second of the day. And a lot can change in a year, especially with their vision. Myopia starts in childhood and progressively increases into early adulthood.  Myopia treatment can slow the progression of myopia and prevent future risk of eye diseases.

  • Managing myopia helps slow down its progression, which reduces the need for stronger eyeglass prescriptions over time.
  • Early management is more effective, especially before adulthood.
  • Helps maintain better vision and eye health in the long term.
  • It prevents serious eye problems in the future, like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment caused by severe myopia.

Does My Child Need Myopia Management?

If your child spends a lot of time doing near work, has excessive screen time, and doesn’t spend that much time outdoors, they may be at a higher risk of developing myopia or of the condition progressing.

Our pediatric eye doctor at James Tracey Eye Care can provide you with valuable information about your child's myopia and assess if they are candidates for myopia management.

In the meantime, take our myopia assessment online.
